Update 19th October 2022

The snapper season is on its way.

Phil caught his first snapper for the season which was 73 cm long and about 5kg  what ripper.

Update 20th January 2022

Reports of salmon in big number around the inner reef.

Flathead have been on the bite and plenty of small pinkies.

Squid are being caught in Beaumaris bay and reports of snapper off Carrum.

Update 29th August 2021


With the pandemic that has effected Australia and the poor weather conditions that we have experienced the fishing has at most been put on hold.

For those that have had the chance to do some fishing have reported that it is quiet at the moment.

With the water temp low at the moment the fish are in hibernation except for the flathead and salmon.

As the water temp climbs we will see the species count grow.

Lets hope that it will be sooner then later and that the pandemic subsides to the point where we can fish and enjoy our boating .

Update 3rd November 2020

The season has started and Dean and his son Luke have opened it in style.

The snapper Dean caught was 5kg and the one Luke has went 7.4kg.

Well done Fellas.

Update 8th August 2020

With the lockdown in regards to covid not much is happening on the fishing front.

The positive out come with this situation is that our fish stocks can grow and when it comes time to get out and wet a line we should be able to catch good numbers of fish.

Until then stay safe.

Update 29th June 2020

With the colder weather setting in the fishing becomes a bit dormant.

How ever those that are able to get out have had luck catching flathead and garfish, and juvenile pinkies which are put back so they can grow to become big reds. 

Calamari are able to be caught on the inner reefs pretty much all year round.

The count down begins in two months the snapper season will begin again and the reports will start to roll in.

Stay safe and warm in this winter covid climate.

Update 23rd February 2020
Reports of calamari and garfish are in abundance at the moment.
Whiting however seem to be hiding.
If the weather settles then I'm sure they will appear.

Update 1st February 2020
The weather has been playing a large role when it comes to fishing.
The water quality has been very poor which has reflected on the fish being caught.
How ever reports of good size flathead have been caught this week as the water has cleaned up.
Hopefully the whiting will appear soon and the late run of snapper will come.

Update 21st December 2019
With the warmer days the water temp is rising and so to are the bags of fish being caught.
The snapper are biting and in the new year the whiting will increase with the warmer water.
Garfish are becoming more plentiful from the pier and flathead numbers are increasing as sparning  season begins.

Update 23rd November 2019
The season has begun .
The snapper have started to run and the whiting are on the chew .
Below Dean caught this whiting witch went 38cm and I caught a nice snapper that went 50cm.

Update 5th November 2019
With the weather all over the place some of us have had a chance to get out .
Jimmy has scored again only this time she went 70cm.

Update 22nd October 2019
The Snapper run has begun.
Many boats have been out this week and the reports are good.
Ricketts Point is coping a hiding as usual with plenty of pinkie snapper being caught.
Jim has opened up his account this season with this nice fish.

Update 20th September 2019
The weather hasn't been the best and the water temperature at the moment is still low at 12.3 degrees.
How ever I managed to get out last weekend and  was able to catch several pinkies on soft plastics.
This to me is a sign that the larger fish want be far away especially with the warmer days on the way.

Update 4th August 2019
The weather hasn't been the best but for those who have braved the cold it has paid off.
I had a chance last weekend and caught some good size squid and some nice flathead over 42 cm.
The weekend before then I was able to repeat the treat, the proof is below .
Today I got out and managed a feed of calamari and caught my first pinkie for the new season on soft plastic.

As the winter weather moves in its good to see that some of our members 
are still hard at it. How ever they maybe slightly north of sunny Mordy .

Update 19th April 2019
With the strange weather we have been experiencing this time of year the fishing as been really good.
Reports of whiting being caught on the inner reef off mentone.
Flathead are in their numbers and salmon.
Squid have been on the move and I believe the red pink combo of the squid jig is doing the trick.

Update 9th November 2018
The season has started well with reports of large snapper being taken in  6m to 14m of water.
Whiting and flathead are also starting to bite as the water temp begins to rise.

Update 20th September 2018
With the new season well on its way, its time for the fishing reports.
Water temperature plays a large roll in the feeding habits of many species of fish and Snapper are one of them.
Flathead at the moment are in their numbers and pinkies are starting to take baits.
Amongst the two ; reports of the odd large snapper as well.

Update 15th March 2018
Pinkies are still plentiful at the moment, even to the point where they can be down right painful.
Especially when your trying to catch whiting.
Flathead  are on the bite and some reports have them up to 50cm in length.
Garfish and salmon have arrived .
Reports of calamari show that there are still good numbers.

Update 21st November 2017
On the weekend Louis and his son Lachlan went out fishing and scored this good size snapper.
The fish weighed in at 5.5kg.

Update 11th October 2017
Its still early days yet as far as the snapper run is concerned.
The water temperature is at 14.8 dg which is still low for this time of year however with a run of warm weather on the way I'm sure the snapper will follow.
Reports of pinkies being caught on the inner reef  and size flathead.
Best baits fresh pilchards and squid caught locally. My choice at the moment is pipis and soft plastics.

Update 2nd September 2017
Pinkie snapper have been caught of Ricketts and flathead are plentiful.
Salmon are schooling in Beaumaris bay and squid are still being taken on the inner reef.

Update 5th February 2017
The water is alive with fish at the moment. The photos below were taken at the Mordy pier and as you can see the bream are in good numbers. Whiting are being taken over the inner reef from Mordy to Mentone and are good size up to 38cm.
Garfish are on the chew and plenty of Pinkies are being caught.

There have been some good size snapper being caught at the moment and Jim happened to catch

The fishing has been really good if you can get out between the bad weather.
Dean had some luck and caught this beauty witch went 3.5kg .

Update 26th September 2016
Snapper season is upon us and for some the snapper have come early.
Eric and his nephew Peter went out early last week and caught some really good size snapper of Mordialloc.
Below is a happy snap of Eric holding two of the fish caught, the larger of the two went 8.2kg.

Update 20th June 2016

The weather is getting colder but if your keen there are fish to be caught and at the moment plenty of squid.
Jim went out on the weekend and managed to catch a good feed of squid. Well done again.

 Update 24 April 2015

The fishing at the moment is good with numbers of salmon,Squid and whiting on the inner reefs.

Jim fished on Sunday and had a good cross catch of fish.

 Update 25th March 2016

There has been a good run of pinkies in Buamaris Bay.

Whiting are still being caught on the inner reefs.

Reports of salmon in good numbers along the reef at Mordialloc and squid have been caught off the pier.

The seal that has been harassing everyone that fish off Parkdale-Metone has gone.

I had a chance to have a fish down that way during the week and caught whiting to 36cm and some nice pinkies to complement the bag.

 Update 28th February 2016

Good size Pinkies have  been caught from the Mordy pier.And reports of good numbers of whiting have been caught from Aspendale to Sandringham.

Reports of a resident seal harassing anglers has come in and I was one of those anglers.

If your planning on fishing off Parkdale near the coffee shop, don't be surprised if she pays you a visit. 

Garfish are on the bite and with a little work you should be able to catch your share of calamari on the

inner reefs.

Flathead have been caught off Mordailloc in deeper water.

 Update 16th December 2015

The warm weather has arrived but so has the winds.

The snapper are still on the chew.Best times are first light and silver whiting and pilchards are the best baits at the moment.

Whiting have arrived and in good numbers.Best baits are squid and fresh muscles.

Garfish have been caught but not in great numbers as yet. Tight lines.

 Update 2nd December 2015

With the Snapper season well on its way many of our members are enjoying the spoils.

My wife and I went out on Sunday and caught a 3kg and 1.8kg snapper , perfect for just the two of us.

The weekend before I had luck with a 3kg and two 2kg snapper.

 

 Max has had his fair share of success as well with two beauty's.  Good on ya fella.

 Update 8th November 2015

Finally we had good weather to fish our 7th comp; and members to participate.

Burnie had a nice snapper at 3.2kg and John at 2.6 kg but Tim took out the heaviest fish at 4.1kg.

Louis and son lachlan got a fish at 1.2kg as well.

I have to include Max because he caught a horse of a banjo which went 5kg easy.

 Update 26th October 2015

As you all know yesterday was the inter club comp with the Mentone RSL boys.

The day was a a ripper considering the forecast for the weather.

As usual we were out numbered by them.But thanks to Paul and his wife, Julian,Max and yours truly we had representation for the MBAC.

Below are the winners of the comp.The fish ranged from 5.2kg to 4.5kg.

 Update 10th October 2015

The snapper have arrived and Jimmy has proved it with two beautiful examples.

One went 4.5kg and the other was 6.5kg. Well done Jimmy.

The weather is warming up and any minute now the snapper are going to go off.

On the weekend Nick one of our members caught some early season snapper.

The fish went 4.5 to 5 kg.

 Update 13th August 2015

For the keen angler winter snapper are there for the taking.

Hot spots are between the 18 and 21 meter marks off Mt Eliza.

Best baits are pilchards,slimy mackerel and fresh squid.. Oh and plenty of patience.

 Update 8th August 2015

Even though the water  is still cold pinkie snapper can be sauced from Blackrock to Brighton on the inner reefs.

After a good blow the fish tend to hoard in the shallow water and go on the bite.

Best baits . Pilchards, Squid and fresh salmon filets are the go.

Squid are still in their numbers and if you can find some clear water your  chances will grow in catching a feed.

 Update 20th May 2015

The weather seems to have brought out the fish.

On the weekend I spoke to several fisho's and they had one or two good size snapper.

Squid are still being taken over the inner reef.

 Salmon have been taken off the pier.

 Update 8th April 2015

Pinkie snapper have been caught from Carrum to Blackrock.

Good reports of squid been taken on the inner reefs.

Leather jackets and whiting have also been caught in the last week.

Even though the weather is starting to become colder the fish are still on the chew so if you get the chance get out and bag yourself a fish.

 Update 6th March 2015

With the weather beginning to get a bit unsettled,most of us haven't had the opportunity to get out fishing.

Those that have, have had great success in catching a feed of fish.

Reports of good size pinkie snapper are on the rise and for some reason the number of pike taken as risen.

I spoke to one of the creek locals on Sunday and was informed that a bag limit of whiting had been taken.

Dave went out on the weekend and caught a good feed of fish. Travelly, Pike and a nice size leather jacket

were part of his haul.

Last week Club member Paul went out off Mordialloc in 18 to 20 meters of water and caught some nice gummy shark.

 Update 4th February 2015

With the cancellation of the Mentone RSL comp we are looking to reschedule it mid February.

At this stage I don't have an exact date but I will get the details asap so that we can plan the day.

As far as the fishing,several reports of gummy sharks have been caught in deep water off Mordy.

Whiting are on the chew on the inner reef from Bueamaris Bay to Black Rock.Good size flathead have been taken as well.

Best baits are fresh muscles,pipis and strips of squid.

The annual competition against Mentone R.S.L. is on again.

 Update 21st December 2014

With the frantic lead up to Xmas some of us have found time between bad weather to get out and catch a fish.

Reports of whiting being caught are on the rise with nice catches of flathead and pinky snapper.

I've yet to see any garfish as yet but I'm sure they will appear after Xmas.

Our next comp will be held on the 11th January 2015.

 Update 5th November 2014

The snapper are in and many fish have been caught ranging from 40cm pinkies to 7kg snapper.

At the moment fish are between 12m to 18m of water however reports have come in that good size fish have been caught on the inner reef from Ricketts to Carrum. Best baits are piltcheds.
